ScienceDaily (Sep. 29, 2008) — 如果有人問您有什麼辦法可以抵擋海嘯，您會怎麼回答呢？是興建堅不可破的海堤嗎？暫時先賣個關子。大家還記得哈利波特電影中出現過的隱形斗蓬嗎？電影中的這個點子讓科學家們想到了如何抵抗排山倒海而來可怕海嘯的方法。神奇的是，只要利用一種簡單的幾何結構，便能讓受保護的建築物在海嘯面前消失無蹤！

圖2. Laboratory experiments show that obstacles arranged in fluids in certain patterns can effectively make objects they surround invisible to waves. If it works as well in in scaled-up versions, it could lead to new ways to protect ocean-based platforms and coasts from devastating tsunamis.

來自法國 Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique（CNRS）、Aix-Marseille Universite 以及英國利物浦大學（University of Liverpool）的研究團隊在實驗室所做出來的研究顯示，也許能建構一種模擬隱形斗蓬（invisibility cloak）的提防，使躲在它後面的建築物在海浪的面前變不見了。它所利用的原理與目前物理學界當紅話題 － 利用光線來達到隱形的斗蓬有些許類似。

海嘯隱形斗蓬（tsunami invisibility cloaks）並不是建造一種在視覺上看不見的結構，不過它可以透過一種近海平台的方式來操控海洋波浪，這也許能用在海岸線沿岸或是比較小的島嶼上，使其有效的躲過海嘯的侵襲。

如果在實驗室裡面所進行的實驗結果能夠實際的應用在真實生活上，那麼海嘯也許就能夠在經過這些建築結構時，不會對躲在這個斗蓬後面的任何物體產生破壞或是將其帶來的影響降到最低。
